I just cannot believe I was stupid enough to miss out on this at the trick or fic event just because the pairings turned me off. Took a friend saying "No, you really want to read this" for me to start. And I was hooked instantly.
This was really, so, so good. I cannot believe so few know about this gem? I don't know if its me who's just got a twisted taste, but this just spoke to me in so many ways: The suspicision of who Junichi is - both Jun's colleague and room mate? Why does he only look at Jun's(??) glow stars while Aiba and Jun have a go at it on the other side of the wall? What is keeping him hidden in the dark? What is up with Satoshi? What is up with Sho who suddenly appears in front of the car and kills? What is with the apples, with Nino, with the victims being under 168? ..
I just LOVE the small bold, notes (from Nino right?) and the line: "The boy who would grow up to be the Snow White Killer was born on the 25th of January at 1:25 am." had me raising my head, suddenly very aware because... Sho? Sho's birthday right? Huh? But.. huh? Nothing made sense then. It was not until the words: "Hang in there, Jun-kun. Just hang in there" that I started to suspect the inevitable. But damn.. Did you wrap it up nicely.
I really want to compliment you for how you built up the story, leaving hints here and there that one would not really know what to do with until the end. I had to read the story again after I finished, rereading and noticing everything with great joy.
The story is dark and twisted and leaves you with a bit of a sickening feeling at what Sho is capable of. But I cannot help but love this role you give Sho. He could pull if off, couldn't he? With his sly intelligence, his manipulative skills. He has all three of the others right where he wants them in the end doesn't he? Makes you wonder how long the other three could've kept him at bay, hadn't Nino shown up.
This is definitely one of my favorite fics here. There are too few of such compelling works. Horror is not an easy genre, but you pull it off beautifully. Thank you. It was a joyful ride. Keeping me on the edge of my chair all the way through.
So the pairings aren't that important, or well, they are VERY important but in an unexpected, curious way. So sorry for not giving you the benefit of the doubt to begin with :(
The end was perfect too btw. It will echo in my mind for a very long time.
"And Sho has always been able to keep all of them in line. All four of them— Junichi. Satoshi. Sho. And Jun."
And I like that we do not know what will happen to them all afterwards. My theory? Jun won't be enough to keep Sho at bay. He will take full control again.
