Sho had just lied to him again. And the boy was getting good at it, too.

“Are you sure you haven’t seen him?” he asked a second time, trying not to look too menacing, though he was barely keeping himself from grabbing his roommate’s bandaged arm and twisting it broken again. Strange, how that arm seemed to be healing faster than he would’ve expected.

“I’m sure.” Sho didn’t even blink nor show any hint of unease. The boy even let out a small giggle before turning around and staring out the bay window. “What did that troublemaker do to you anyway?”

“Nothing.” He sighed, falling back into his bed with a lazy thud, arms carelessly spread out and legs dangling over the edge. “It’s just... I don’t think I’ve seen him all day, you know?” He smirked at the muffled gasp that escaped Sho’s throat. Keeping his gaze at the soothing white of the ceiling, he decided to take another jab at the boy’s palpably keyed up nerves. “You didn’t, like, by any chance, do something to him... did you?”

“Of course not!” Sho squeaked, then cleared his throat. “What are you even saying? Is he not in his room?”

“Uh-huh.” Satoshi sat up and crossed his arms over his chest, curled his lips into a thoughtful pout. “Yoko hasn’t seen him since breakfast, either.”

“Maybe he got lost?” Sho grinned cockily. “You know, like how Masaki gets lost in the hallways every day?”

“Naaaah...” Satoshi screwed his face up into a grimace, tilted his head to the side. “Kazu’s not like Masaki. He won’t get lost in the hallways. Aren’t you worried, though?”

“Nah.” Sho shrugged and clucked his tongue, turning his gaze back on the clouds that had gradually begun forming over Waku Waku.  “He’ll turn up. He always does.”

This time, Satoshi was sure he couldn’t be wrong. He heard the subtlest lilt of anxiety in his roommate’s voice. Saw the subtlest movement of Sho’s delicate throat as the boy gulped down the things Satoshi knew he had wanted to say instead.

He delighted so much at the way Sho’s jaws bulged in the boy’s effort to keep a straight face, that he almost missed it when Sho pushed his good hand into his pocket, the bulge it created quivering slightly as the boy fiddled with whatever it was he was hiding there.

He wouldn’t usually stand for this. He absolutely hated not knowing anything that happened around here. He should know. He should always know.

But since Sho came here, he had gotten so distracted that he had almost lost sight of what this place meant to him. Of why he had to keep it running under his will and not anybody else’s.

Especially not Sho’s.

The boy’s blatant lies of late had made him realize that he had to start picking up after himself, or else risk losing Waku Waku forever—

He’d better..., was what he really meant to say. But he bit his tongue against it, jumped off the bed and shuffled casually to stand beside his roommate, their gazes mutually fixing on that same spot in the sky where the first drops of rain had started to fall. “He does, doesn't he? That brat...”

Sho turned to him with a painfully stiff smile, a stiffer nod, making it that much harder to keep his own mask of nonchalance from crumbling apart.

He wrapped an arm around Sho’s waist and pulled the boy fast against himself; secretly delighting in the way the boy flinched and then stiffened at his tenderly whispered threat. “Don’t ever get lost in the hallways, Sho-chan...”
