Christmas Eve morning swings by with his wife’s disgruntled face. Today’s the first time in ten years that Satoshi resents it.
Times have changed and the kids of Stormville have become more cautious. His list gets shorter and shorter each year, too.
Still, he dons his tattered red suit begrudgingly, though the furry white edges have started falling apart.
That night, a particularly rowdy boy throws his tasseled hat into the fireplace. He vindicates himself by throwing the boy’s finely ground pieces into the oven in turn.
Shoko’s special meat pies barely make it to the shelves on Christmas morning.
The evil Santa took Masaki, Kazunari just knows it!
He’d tell his dad, but Dad has also told him to stay away from the kid. The only boy who has ever made him feel at home in this town.
Everybody thinks Masaki has run off with some girl from their class.
But Masaki has just confessed to him a week ago.
And last night, they’ve even shared a kiss. A real one. With all the works.
It was a birthday gift, a Christmas present, and a first-week-anniversary treat all rolled into one.
Apparently, it was also gonna be their last—
There are only a few things that Shoko can’t stand—
But out of the 101 of them—100 of which all concern her grudgingly subservient husband—it’s seeing her only son sulking like he’s just lost a couple of pennies that gets to her the most.
And a penny’s worth about the same as a thousand where her money-hoarding Kazunari is concerned—
“What’s wrong, honey?” She cozies up beside her boy at a corner booth, places a serving of today’s special before him. “Anything that Mommy’s Christmas meat pie can’t fix?”
Kazunari’s smile puts Shoko’s heart at ease. “Thanks, Mom.”
Nothing makes sense to Jun.
He and Masaki have just gotten back together last night!
And although they’ve had their share of disagreements, mostly inspired by Baker Ohno’s reclusive son, they’ve also always been able to patch things up.
Forgive.
Forget.
Overlook—
Jun knows Kazunari was in Masaki’s room last night. He almost choked on the freak’s tart, cheap scent when Masaki wrapped a scarf around his neck, pulling him into a kiss—
He didn’t say yes. But he didn’t say no either.
It was the first time for both of them.
Sadly, it was also gonna be the last—
Someone’s been following them.
Everywhere he looks, he sees a flash of red. Dashing behind a tree. Ducking behind a wall.
Watching. Just watching.
“Masaki? You’re acting funny again.”
He chuckles, a slightly nervous sound. “It’s because you’ve been talking all day about that evil Santa, Kazu! Now I’m getting paranoid!”
“Well, he does come around on Christmas Eve, doesn’t he?” Kazunari kicks casually on a mound of snow. “But he only preys on naughty kids. And you’re the nicest one in Stormville.”
Masaki grabs the grinning boy’s hand and sighs.
“Come by tomorrow for Mom’s Christmas meat pie, okay?”
***Uhm, Merry Christmas...? Chuus~! <333
***And I’ll remember not to watch Sweeney Todd on Christmas season ever again. ^^V
