Their first meeting was marked by a rainbow the older boy had drawn himself.
A dapple of red dots here. A fluttering of green lines there. A breath of purple steam dashing through a chaotic mess of blue and yellow arches, intertwined in all the wrong ways.
“It’s good, right?” Ohno asked, beaming.
“Not so much,” Nino pouted, unimpressed. “But I’ve seen worse.”
Ohno looked crushed, but undeterred. “I’ll have to try harder next time, then.”
Nino shrugged, feigning nonchalance. “You can also just give it all up, you know.”
“I can’t do that!”
“Why not?”
“You know why, Nino.”
Their second meeting was wrapped in a tuft of cotton cloud the older boy had molded himself.
“What’s this?” he asked, unflinching in his indifference.
“Something to make you smile,” Ohno replied, annoying in his sincerity.
Such acts of kindness had always discomfited Nino. “I don’t need it!”
Ohno pressed the cloud back into his arms and grinned. “Keep it anyway.”
“Fine!” Nino drew the tuft close to his chest, almost smiling at its surprising warmth and resilience. “It won’t last long anyway.”
“My cloud will last forever.”
“Sure.”
“I made it special for you.”
“Why?”
“You know why, Nino.”
Their third meeting was awash in the bluish-white glow of moonbeams and starlight that the older boy himself had strung out all across the sky.
“It’s beautiful, right?” Ohno’s face was aglow with pride.
“It’s nothing I haven’t seen before.” Nino’s eyes gleamed with disdain, though his flattered heart begged a dozen times to differ.
“You don’t always have to be so tough, Nino,” Ohno’s voice was reprimanding.
“I don’t always have to get hurt, either.” Nino smirked, suddenly drowning in bitterness.
“You know you can trust me.”
“Why, Oh-chan? Why do you keep doing these things?”
“You know why...”
Their fourth meeting was steeped in a hushed air of desolation.
It was also going to be their last.
“I knew it,” Nino sighed.
Ohno laced their fingers together and smiled, “This doesn’t feel so bad, does it?”
“No, but...”
“You can always cling to me when things get tough.”
“I won’t count on it.”
“You’ll see.”
They stared on, in comfortable silence, as the balmy images of their times together spread out, an intermingling of colors and light, on the contrasting darkness of the horizon.
Until Nino finally wakes up, as he always does, back to his dreary reality.
Their fifth meeting takes Nino by surprise.
For some reason, the oddball staring at him in open scrutiny from the other side of the room looks disturbingly familiar.
He does not understand why until they cross paths in some random hallway, and the older boy slips a folded piece of paper into his hand while whispering, “I told you I’ll keep trying.”
On the note is a familiar intermingling of colors, of perfect rainbows and cotton clouds steeped in moonbeams and starlight, labeled at the bottom with the words that has always warmed Nino’s seemingly unyielding heart—
You know why.
The very first time Nino meets Satoshi Ohno at Johnny’s Jimusho is also the first and last time he falls in love.

Date: 2015-10-12 10:13 pm (UTC)Nino is a study in contradiction. We can never really tell how he really is from what we see. Sometimes he can put even the things we do not see into question. Serious one moment, just plain troll the next, lol~! But that's really what makes him interesting, right?
Thank you very much for reading and for the yummy cookies~! I am really glad you liked this. ^____^<3
