The art teacher had warned them to use the glue with caution.
So Sho would never understand how two perfectly healthy boys with four perfectly functioning ears between them could end up supergluing each other’s hands together barely two minutes after Okada-sensei had left them to their own creative devices.
It was utterly stupid, but was also just the kind of stupid that Satoshi and Masaki would do for fun.
“Okada-sensei said to stick the wood together, not your hands, you idiots!” Jun’s face was red and gnarly with an unhealthy amount of ire that would’ve been too much for a ten-year-old kid to handle, what more for another ten-year-old kid to take.
But Masaki had by now already gained immunity to his roommate’s fiery moods and was currently ignoring the prissy boy in favor of a punch line to a superglue joke that he had already lost in his own fits of laughter.
Satoshi gamely laughed with him like it mattered very little whether the joke made sense or not.
“Are you still stuck?” Sho asked, trying not to sound too upset, his gaze fixed on the two hands fused and soaking together in the basin of warm soapy water that Okada-sensei himself had prepared with strict instructions not to do anything at all until he returned from dismissing today’s art class.
“Yeah. I think so,” Satoshi said, sounding too amused. He started laughing again when Masaki tugged at his hand. He tugged back, spilling water and soap suds on the table.
Jun rolled his eyes.
Sho let out an impatient huff.
“You two can just go, you know.” Masaki smirked. “It’s not like you’re stuck to us or anything. Ne, Oh-chan?”
“Jun-kun can go,” Satoshi said, his face and tone at once mellowing. He reached out and laced his unstuck fingers through Sho’s hand before Sho could even think to leave. “Sho-chan’s stuck to me now, too. See?” The grinning boy raised their hands proudly, making Jun roll his eyes a second time before muttering, “Whatever,” and moseying out of the kitchen.
Sho jerked his hand a little to see if he was really stuck—
“Did you put superglue on your other hand too, Oh-chan?”
He wasn’t—
“No.”
But with how firm Satoshi was currently gripping his hand, he might as well be—
“Then how can you two be stuck?”
Sho was flushing now, lost in the unspoken plea in his roommate’s eyes—
“We just are.”
He decided he could probably stay for a few minutes more.
